How does one even begin to fathom setting up and successfully conducting, year after year, one of the world's most special yet unheard of music festivals in "the middle of nowhere"?

By repositioning it as the "Center of the World".

The Ziro Festival of Music, takes place in the North-Eastern Indian state, Arunachal Pradesh.

Arriving to the festival from any major city in India involves a flight to the nearest airport (which happens to be in another state), an overnight train, and then an 'SUV’ ride that can last anywhere from 5 to 18 hours depending on the frequency and intensity of landslides on the way.

However, the golden paddy fields that welcome you after the tedious journey make it all worth it.

I have filmed at the festival four years in a row (2015-2018). The space, the energy, and the music always bring me back. There's always something interesting and beautiful to capture each time.

Be it digital video, hi-8 video, or even 35mm stills. The valley is made for every format.

Owing to its logistical challenges, filming in Ziro is confined to a stripped down crew and portable gear. However none of that matters. What matters is the impromptu experiences, the breathtaking serenity of the place, the kind nature of its inhabitants, and of course the infectious energy of the most passionate festival crew in the world.
